I REALLY WISH I WAS WORKING! I've had this entire week off. Much of it has been spent with small irritations like my advisor from TWC sending all of my resume material to everyone ever even though I ALREADY HAVE A JOB. I am absolutely fine waiting for my security clearance to go through, which should be next week or the week after, but instead, he is sending things every which way making it a big pain for me to have to explain to each and every agency (that I'm not even INTERESTED in, mind you) that, yes, I already have a job lined up and if it falls through, I will call them. My head hurts and I just want to work already. I am sick of being on the phone and making awkward conversation with people. Huff.
Other than that, things are great here. A little lonely because the roomies are all at work during the day, but at least yesterday I got a TON of stuff done. I just decided at about 11am that I wasn't going to spend the day sitting inside so I just got on the metro, rode for awhile, got off in downtown and just walked around the city. I went to the Holocaust museum (incredible) for 2.5 hours (still not enough time), the Washington Monument (though I didn't go up in it... wanted to wait for the roomies to do that), WWII memorial, Lincoln Memorial, Vietnam Memorial, then WALKED to Foggy Bottom (George Washington University) and cruised around there for awhile. I absolutely love their campus, and even though the lady I talked to at their law school a few days ago was kind of flakey, I'm going to give them a chance to redeem themselves and I will probably go visit again later this fall and go on a tour and everything. Anyway, then I walked from GWU to the Georgetown area... yet still managed to completely miss the college campus that was hiding around there somewhere. Georgetown is incredible but I have a feeling if I lived down there, I would be even more poor than I already will be from living in the city. They have basically every store you could ever imagine... Coach, diesel, lucky jeans, Ann Taylor, express, anthropologie, H & M, Banana Republic, J Crew, etcetcetc. I had to keep a tight grasp on my credit card to make sure I didn't go nuts and just start spending. I thought I was kind of high maintenance before this trip, but the girls in Georgetown put me to shame. I don't know if I could ever keep up with them without going broke. Anyway, then I walked a TON more back to the Dupont area and then up to Adams Morgan which is by the Zoo, etc. And because I am a loser who refuses to ask directions, I ended up walking about 20 blocks extra when I could have just taken the metro. Whatever. Adams Morgan is a really neat area with a lot of wonderful looking restaurants that I hopefully can check out later in my visit here. We are volunteering at the Adams Morgan Day festival all day Sunday which should be pretty cool. Not sure exactly what we'll be doing but the volunteers get to go to a party at a bar Sunday night following our work there... Hopefully the under 21 year olds (i.e. ME) can get in to enjoy the fun as well.
Tomorrow I have a leadership conference/workshop all day long with my LIFT group. Should be interesting (at least it will be something to keep me busy!). Today, I was supposed to wait for the maintenance guy to come and fix one of our toilets but he was supposed to come at 10 and it is now almost noon. I'm kind of sick of waiting so I may head down to the King Street area which is one metro stop away and kind of reminds me of Charleston, SC which is one of my favorite places anyway. Anyway, hope you are all doing well and I will try to put some more photos up soon. For some reason, I've been super lazy about taking pictures. Hopefully I can change that soon.
